One of the things Melbourne is famous for is its laneway culture. Souk opened in March at the end of one such laneway, Bligh Place off Flinders Lane. It offers an adventurous menu of Mexican influenced Middle Eastern, designed around share plates. Set menus start at a very reasonable $45 per person for four items. We tried steamed dumplings in both chicken and lamb versions, the prawn felafel, and the lamb shoulder with pearl couscous. Souk had opened the night before our visit – only one of the mocktails was available, but other than that the place looks amazing (very industrial cool), the food is interesting, and the service good.
